The Kaitoke Hot Springs Twilight Trek starts at Whangaparapara Road; the journey to the hot springs is flat and easy. The path follows an ancient shoreline traversing the Kaitoke wetlands and regenerating kānuka forest. Your guide may alert you to the call of a Fernbird or Spotless Crake, as they describe the interesting history of the area. Forty-five minutes later the track reaches the natural hot springs, dammed at a fork in Kaitoke Creek and surrounded by umbrella fern, shaded by Pohutukawa trees.
Enjoy a rejuvenating soak in natural hot geo-thermal springs as the sun sets. If the skies are clear, your guide will take you to an expansive view of the stars within the Kaitoke wetlands, the largest in New Zealand. Be amazed by our protected Dark Sky Sanctuary. Search the skies with your darkness adjusted eyes. Your guide, a dark sky enthusiast, will share stories of the night, stars, constellations and the moon as it rises.

Terrain
- Flat, well-formed track to the hot springs.
- Gravel and large rocks entrance to the hot springs pools.
Note: Start and finish times of this tour will be earlier in winter and autumn seasons.

- Bring a day pack, water bottle, swim suit, light towel, light raincoat, camera.
